Ian Brock is a 15 year old Chicago native, Co-Founder of Dream Hustle and Code Beyond The Cookie®, rookie coder, and “soon to be” author. His mission is to inspire kids to help them develop a stronger belief in themselves and their ability to learn computer science/coding. He wants them to dream and achieve bigger for themselves.
Rooted in a personal development regiment since 4 years old and based on Mr. Napoleon Hill’s Think And Grow Rich and Dr. Dennis Kimbro’s Think and Grow Rich A Black Choice book models, Ian has interviewed forty-eight amazing individuals over the last 3+ years. His interviews include people across industries, including entrepreneurs + founders, Hollywood figures, to tech billionaires. The idea for his book originated from his interaction with kids who participated in computer science/coding initiatives produced by Dream Hustle Code. Ian discovered that, in addition to access to computer science education, kids also need to develop confidence and a strong belief in themselves. He strongly felt that a book on success, written in the words of a kid, might just resonate on a deeper level.
His non profit, Dream Hustle Code, is on a mission to create innovators and to level the playing field for under-represented individuals in the tech industry (African Americans, Latinos and Girls), and especially students from under-resourced communities. By empowering schools and communities with tools to reinvent themselves in the 21st Century, Dream Hustle Code hopes to create and inspire future computer scientists, entrepreneurs, and visionaries.
Ian’s most exciting venture, VisionScape 2019, was traveling with 25 students from Chicago to Silicon Valley + Los Angeles to visit technology and entertainment companies, so that kids would see a bigger vision of their future up close.
He has been featured in Forbes, The 12-Year-Old Entrepreneur That Will Take Global Tech & The World By Storm, Education Week, He wants Chicago Kids to Build the Next Silicon Valley. He’s 13 , in a series about education technology in February 2018, Medium, 5 Questions with Dream Hustle Code: Not Your Average 13yr Old, and more recently in Travel Noire, Meet Ian Brock, The 14-year-old Chicago Native Introducing Computer Science To Underserved Communities. He has spoken twice at Google (Los Angeles and Mountain View), Startup Grind Global 2018 (Silicon Valley), WE Day Chicago 2018, Steve Harvey Foundation Mentoring Camp 2018, ISTE 2018, and WIPO Inclusion Innovation Conference 2018. Ian was also included in an Apple-funded short documentary series titled Generation Z – Chicago Summer Stories 2018, which highlighted Chicago Gen Z’ers in Activism, Arts & Entertainment, and Innovation. VisionScape Silicon Valley is Ian’s most exciting fundraising campaign to take kids from Chicago’s under-served and under-represented communities to Silicon Valley in July 2019.
Outside of his work, Ian is a Board Member of Student Voice Foundation. He is an avid reader, loves to play video games and basketball, and hang out with his friends.
